Starboard wing on car roof bars: 2007-09-07.
Nikon Coolpix 8400
The starboard wing tied down onto the wooden roof bars on the C5 Estate. The roof bars, made of recovered mahogany, mount on the M5 tapped holes provided for Citroen's own rails, but were much cheaper! The wing was being taken to my inspector for the pre-close inspection.
Wing LE restraint on car roof bars: 2007-09-07.
Nikon Coolpix 8400
It was easy to prevent vertical movement by tying the wing down onto the roof bars with rope, but to prevent sideways movement, I screwed some blocks of wood onto the ends of the roof bars. These also prevented the rope from cutting into the wing structure at the edges.
Wing TE restraint on car roof bars: 2007-09-07.
Nikon Coolpix 8400
Without the top skin the trailing edge is very flexible and quite fragile, so the blocks on this side were arranged to keep the ropes clear of the TE, and to provide sideways support against the much stronger bottom skin corner. At the root end, I used this piece of an old door which was almost the right shape already. It just needed notches bandsawn to clear the TE and to locate the ropes.
