Flap bracket clamped to jig: 2002 11 23.
Canon AV-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
The starboard tip flap bracket clamped to the wooden jig during curing. Note the additional back brace to ensure the flap bracket is true in both planes.
Tensioning flap bracket alignment line: 2002 10 26.
Canon AV-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
This is one end of the line stretched between FL1 and FL3 to allow alignment of the bush in FL2 with the other two. The other end is just knotted, but using a screw terminal insert here allows the line to be tensioned easily.
Flap bracket alignment target in use: 2002 10 26.
Canon AV-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
It was surprizingly difficult to be sure the plastic target was truly concentric with the bush on the centre flap bracket. Even when sighting from the end of the flap, the slight offset of the sight-line to see past the outer bracket was enough to cause doubt. I had to be content with sighting from as many angles as possible to convince myself it looked equally out-of-line in all directions!
Flap bracket alignment system in use: 2002 10 26.
Canon AV-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
View of the complete flap bracket alignment system, with the central bracket FL2 clamped between angle pieces which in turn are held in position by lead weights.
