Redux test piece broken
Redux test piece broken: 2007-10-11.
Nikon Coolpix 8400
This is the Redux (aka Araldite 420, aka ZK 420) test piece broken. I clamped one piece of the BID-layup strip in the vice and hit the other with a hammer. It appears that the piece on the right has lost the top layer of its (Ampreg 20) resin to the Redux on the left, but the layup shows no other damage. The received wisdom on this is that the Redux should be stronger than any glass layup that it's joining, so this indicates that this batch of Redux is no longer really up to scratch. It's clear anyway that some of the yellow component did not mix properly; some jelly-like bits of it can be seen on both faces of the broken joint.
