Wing rear closeout reinforcement: 2003 04 26.
Canon AV-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
Outboard end of starboard wing, showing reinforcement layups at spar-to-skin corners and over rear closeout. Note the wooden spacer inserted in the aileron gap to correct the shape. As supplied, the upper and lower flanges are too close together and if stiffened with BID in that position, would make fitting both the top skin and the aileron difficult.
Wing rear closeout spacer: 2003 04 26.
Canon AV-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
Here the wooden spacer has been removed after the layup has cured. Note the flanges at the handle positions which stop it sliding too far into the closeout recess. The wood was mahogany recovered from the frames of the old double-glazing.
