Soldering iron with special bit: 2001 06 26.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
This is an ordinary Camping Gaz 45W electric soldering iron with a removable bit. The standard copper bit is lying on the table. Inserted in its place is a piece of 0.25" soft aluminium rod, with one end turned down to make it fit. At the other end it's bent more-or-less at a right angle to puncture the walls of the lightening holes. The blue-ish colour at the business end is melted foam.
Tile files: 2001 06 29.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
These are a couple of files with tungsten carbide grit faces, alternatives to Perma-Grit files. The one with the blue handle is sold in most D-I-Y warehouses under such brands as Draper. The red-handled one came from a tile shop and doesn't seem to have a brand name. These don't offer the wide selection of shapes that Perma-Grit supply, but they are cheap and readily available, and seem to last pretty well on glass and resin.
