Port wing tilted onto LE

port wing tilted for aileron fitting

port wing tilted for aileron fitting: 2008-02-16.

Nikon Coolpix 8400

The port wing raised using the rope and pulley system, and tilted onto its leading edge to allow easier access to the aileron hinge flange. At the root, the rope is tied to the spar, and the tip rope is looped around a piece of thick-wall aluminium tube inserted in the conduit. In fact, before drilling the hinge holes, I lowered it to the floor in this orientation so that the wing could lean against the work table for support while drilling. I couldn't do this so easily with the starboard wing as I hadn't installed the conduit before I fitted the ailerons, and it took much more effort (or preferably 2 people) to move the wing into different working positions.
