The port aileron fitted to the port wing with the link rod connected. The link rod is restricted from moving significantly inboard by the wing closeout structure. In its normal position, the aileron is prevented from moving far enough outboard to allow the ball end on the link rod to engage with the drive stud on the aileron root. So, the aileron has to be offered up at an angle with the mass-balance horns clear of the horn boxes. This was a slightly ticklish operation with the wing in its transport dolly - the dolly had to be opened up enough to allow the tip of the aileron to adopt the required position.
