Glass cupboard under construction: 2000 11.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
Work in progress on the glass-cloth cupboard. It's sitting on the piece of plywood which will later become the door. Note the blocks at the back of the bottom surface for the door to stop against, instead of it hitting the shelf brackets. It's not so clear in this view that the hinges are also spaced away from the bottom on blocks so that the door will be horizontal when open.
Glass cupboard hung on the wall: 2000 11.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
The glass-cloth cupboard hung on the wall. You can just see that there are a couple of shelf brackets at the top as well as those at the bottom. Because the plywood tended to bow slightly across its width, the 2 black handles seen here were later replaced by a single one centrally placed at the top of the door for a better seal against dust. Note how the tail of the door extends beyond the hinges.
Glass cupboard door open: 2000 11.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
The glass-cloth cupboard hung with the door open. Originally, I'd thought of fitting a hinged leg to support the door when open, but it proved adequately strong without that. Obviously I don't lean heavily on the door, but it shows no sign of distress during all the reaching and stretching involved in measuring and cutting large pieces of glass-cloth.
Glass cupboard: 2001 12 04.
Canon F-1, Fujichrome Velvia 50.
The completed glass cupboard installed and in use. Note the brown foam draught-excluder tape around the face of the carcase to help keep dust out and heat in when the door is closed. The smaller roll of BID that came with the fuselage kit is on the top roller, covered with various scraps. Eventually I got fed up with the scraps falling off and getting lost around the heater, so made a box to sit in the base of the cupboard just above the heater, with separate BID & UNI compartments for offcuts.
Resin cupboard under construction: 2000 11.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
Work in progress on the resin cupboard. The design and dimensions were dictated by the size of the resin containers, the pump, and the pieces of wood I happened to have lying around. You can see some of the inter-compartment ventilation holes in the shelves and dividers. The tubular heater is in the separate bottom compartment, with its thermostat at back top left of the pump compartment. The sides and top are insulated with expanded polystyrene slabs (note multi-layer construction) but the bottom is not, in the hope that hot air will rise.
Resin cupboard: 2000 12 28.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
The resin cupboard with stock in the right half and pump in the left, filled and waiting to be calibrated at the cupboard temperature. Note the tail-kit foam lurking on the left still wrapped in polyethylene at this stage.
Cupboards and curtain: 2000 12 28.
Canon AV-1, Kodak Royal Gold 200.
Both cupboards fixed to the right-hand wall, and the first insulating curtain hung just inside the garage door. The curtain was made of 2 outer layers of builders' polyethylene sheet and an inner layer of bubble-wrap. The tail kit foam sits, wrapped in poyethylene, on the layup table, which has its lower shelf filled with wood offcuts and other stuff that might come in useful.
