initial SWR checks: 2021-03-01 Panasonic DMC-FT1
NanoVNA display with fuselage still in garage, for a rough check of the comm radio SWR across the band. The frequency sweep is from 100MHz to 150MHz. The yellow trace is return-loss in dB and the green trace is SWR. Here I have moved the display markers down to find the lower frequency with SWR of about 1:2 - actually 1:1.97. This turns out to be 108MHz.
initial SWR checks: 2021-03-01 Panasonic DMC-FT1
NanoVNA display of initial SWR checks. Here I have moved the display markers up to find the higher frequency with SWR of 1:2. This turns out to be 134.5MHz. So there is a band of 26.5MHz in which the SWR is below 1:2. Obviously the resonant frequency (where the SWR is around 1:1) will need to be increased to get the area of minimum SWR centred on the aeronautical band of 118MHz - 138MHz, but this looks very promising, and much easier to use and interpret than a traditional VSWR meter which just reads at a single frequency.
