I considered that it would be awkward to prepare and paint the outside of the doors with the outer handles in place, but wanted to assemble the shoot-bolt mechanism before the painting process. To allow the DL03 inner handles to be secured, I turned up this bush from a cut-off 1/2 inch bolt. It is the same length as the DL04 shaft now permanently attached to the DL01 outer handle, and the end nearest the camera has been turned down to fit within the square hole in the DL03 inner handle. A screw can be passed through this bush with suitable-size washers to retain DL03 without obstructing the outer surface of the door.
