ATR833 comm radio diagnostics
comm radio diagnostics: 2021-03-04 Panasonic DMC-FT1
To find out what was causing a tone in the headphones on transmit, I separated the ATR833 D-sub connexion with a ribbon-cable jumper. This allowed me to connect one wire at a time, to determine which one was causing the problem. I eventually found it was the dynamic microphone inputs. The manual calls for them to be shorted to earth when not in use, which I had done. But the unwanted tone only disappeared when I disconnected the dynamic mic inputs and left them open-circuit.
